Marlborough Photo The city of Marlborough is located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Bordering cities and towns are: Hudson, Berlin, Northborough, Southborough, Sudbury, and Framingham.
Visitors entering the city from the West via route 20 are greeted by the scenic Lake Williams, one of the two large lakes in Marlborough. Fort Meadow, the other large lake and swim venue for this triathlon, provides three-season recreation opportunities for residents, and can be found along Route 85 that runs north and south through the city. Both lake areas are made more beautiful with the seasonal changes of their surrounding foliage.
Marlborough's close proximity to Interstates 495 and 290 and the Massachusetts Turnpike has enabled it to remain on the cutting edge of growing industries like high technology and specialized electronics. Today, thousands flock to Marlborough to work at Fidelity Investments, Raytheon, Compaq, and the many other electronics and computer firms that provide the strong business community in the city. Because of the city's central location with easy access to major highways and the pro-business, pro-development policies of the city government, the population of Marlborough has more than doubled to 37,525 residents in the last 25 years.
Marlborough has a rich history and is home to the oldest operating inn in the United States Longfellow's Wayside Inn (1716), the Peter Rice Homestead (1668), and the John Brown Bell (1892). While residents appreciate the historic footings, they are fully aware and interested in today's issues. There is an active green community (GreenMarlborough.org), and two cable stations bring the Marlborough news and city council meetings (and many other local interest programs) into residents' homes.
The residents of Marlborough enjoy a small town feel with the amenities of a city. Marlborough and surrounding communities offer an array of cultural activities, recreation parks and golf courses, organized sport programs, down hill skiing, bike paths and historic attractions.
